Swanfield Road, Whitstable

Large, light and notably characterful detached and extended Victorian house of 1923 square feet, with a mature, generous and sunny south-east facing garden with sun terrace, and plenty of space if you wanted to install a summer house/garden studio. Chain free.

Your delightful dream principal (or second/additional) home is located on a quiet back street in wonderful Whitstable, between its mainline station and its main beach (walk just 10 minutes to these). The proximity to Whitstable's high street area is only two minutes. The average journey time from London Victoria to Whitstable is 1 hour, 20 minutes.

Your handsome new house enjoys excellent light throughout the day, and the rear garden and terrrace deliver day-long sun. A wealth of retained Victorian features further impress – including sash and bay windows and original fireplaces. Ceilings are pleasingly high throughout. There is also excellent custom-carpentry and plentiful storage.

This is a house of many big rooms, and you can use these flexibly depending on your needs. In current setup you have three large reception rooms downstairs, plus a breakfast room (with wood-burner), kitchen, plumbed utility room and a guest w.c.

Then upstairs you have three double bedrooms atop your formal reception rooms, and a beautiful bathroom plus additional w.c. Additionally, a generous ante/dressing room leads to your principal bedroom (of over 15 feet by nearly 9 feet).

Access your sizeable garden at three points downstairs (from one of your reception rooms, from the hall and from the breakfast room). You also of course have gated side access – which is great for BBQ guests, gardening, or bringing pets or buggies through. The well-established garden hosts a pond, a large lawn, and a paved area nearest the house. There is also a practical cement base ready and waiting for a summer house, garden room or working office. Mature trees in the garden incluse the 40 year old Ginkgo, old Mulberry, Swamp Cypress and Walnut tree.

Whitstable is not just about its (fabulous and famous) oysters! It is a fun working town for locals and tourists alike, with engaging local history and architecture. Whitstable Harbour is a gorgeous spot for a people-watch.

Many of your local restaurants are first-rate. Some of our favourites include Whitstable Oyster Company, The Hotel Continental (these first two with sea views!), Samphire, Keller, Harbour Street Tapas and Thirty Nine Whitstable. Wheelers Oyster Bar is the oldest (and most colourful) venue in town for fresh oysters. For fish and chips (fresh to order, bien sur), it has to be Ossie’s. Both of these are on the high street.

The high street? Is such a pretty one, delivering all your essentials (banks, chemists etc.) plus cute cafes, bakeries, charity, gift and boutique shops as well. Pubs are plentiful locally as well. The most popular probably being The Neptune Inn - which is positioned right on the actual beach!

For further options, explore the whole Kent Coast with ease by rail or car: Margate is just 18 minutes by train, Broadstairs is 24, Ramsgate is 32. Historic Canterbury is also close - here, find Roman walls, cobbled streets and timber-framed houses in the medieval centre, and of course Canterbury Cathedral. Gothic and Romanesque elements hugely impress.
