For more options, local towns include Honor Oak (at the other end of Devonshire Road, with lovely high street), East Dulwich, Sydenham, Brockley and Peckham. 

Horniman Gardens and Museum are worth your weekend-time, as is the Devonshire Road Nature Reserve and One Tree Hill (fabulous London skyline views up here). Ladywell Fields is only a little further afield. 

Forest Hill Station is close for London-bound trains, and Overgound services to Hoxton, Clapham Junction and Canada Water (for Canary Wharf) among other destinations. There are also plenty of useful bus routes upon the South Circular.
